Post Point Treatment Plant / Larrabee Trail
This diverse and always interesting route offers views of Fairhaven's waterfront at work while also incorporating a quieter, natural setting with exposure to different wildlife depending on the time of year. Start at the trailhead on 4th Street between Mackenzie and Donovan Avenues. Initially, head southwest into the Post Point Treatment Plant Open Space. Yes, this is very near where the city's waste is treated, but you'd never guess it as views of the treatment plant itself are buffered by vegetation and there is no foul smelling aroma. For the past few years, Great Blue Herons have nested here. You'll also swing by the Post Point Lagoon, one of the few pocket estuaries in the city, as you circle the grounds. After arriving at the plant's main entrance you can head to the foot of Harris Ave. before making a quick swing through Marine Park and then around the Alaska Ferry Terminal

From here travel up Harris on the north side of the street where, if you take your time, you’ll get to read the various sidewalk historical markers telling tales (true or tall) about past Fairhaven lore. Once at 10th Street you can travel south until you hit the Larrabee Trailhead and then continue west down the trail, following lower Padden Creek to complete your journey. In late fall you might catch a glimpse of salmon as they make their way upstream.
