| Semiahmoo Spit Trail Welcome this rare opportunity to enjoy views of Canada, the Peace Arch and Mount Baker, all from one short length of trail. As a bonus, abundant wildlife viewing can be counted on, too. On my most recent visit, I counted 15 herons in one small stretch of beach and many seals sunning themselves on the docks between Semiahmoo and Blaine. Find the trailhead across the road from the parking lot at Semiahmoo Park and head north, initially along the Coast Millennium Trail. Along this flat and paved path, you’ll be treated to grand views across Drayton Harbor to Mount Baker. After eight tenths of a mile you’ll encounter the newest stretch of trail made up of crushed rock and oyster shell paving with a couple of wood walkways, view shelters and beach access points. At the end of the spit enjoy an expansive and dramatic view of the international border as the Peace Arch and Peace Arch Park are straight ahead. Next up are the boardwalks and pier of Semiahmoo Resort. From there you have your choice of retracing your steps or traveling along the beach on the west side of the spit with the panoramic scene across Semiahmoo Bay to White Rock. Once back at your starting point, you can extend your outing by following the trail east along the abandoned road that used to head toward Blaine for a wooded, shady respite (this section is over one mile roundtrip). With up to 4 miles of exploring to do depending on how many directions you want to take advantage of, this makes for a pleasant, easy summer outing with a lot of visual excitement along the way.
