4 Steps to Reaching Your Running Goal in the New Year

Happy New Year!  Let’s do something a little different this year. Let’s choose a running goal that makes our heart sing and then go for it. When we narrow down our goals to what we really want and put our effort into reaching that milestone, we are unstoppable.

Here are 4 Steps to Reaching Your New Year Running Goal:

  1. Have One Goal: Focus on one main running goal for the year. Is your goal to be able to run a 5K without walking, run under a 10 minute mile, or qualify for the Boston Marathon? Write it down and make this your main running focus for the year.
  2. Eliminate One Thing: Each week, eliminate one thing from your life that is standing in the way of your goal. Do you spend 30 minutes on Facebook each day? Decide to set a timer for 15 minutes. Then do 15 minutes of Facebook time followed by 15 minute of strengthening exercises. Do you drink two cans of soda each day? Plan to drink one and replace the other with sparkling water. Little things make a difference.
  3. Do One Thing: Each day, do one thing to get you closer to your goal.  This could be planning healthy meals and snacks, eating four servings of vegetables, being intentional with your workout or rest for the day. Consistency is the key.
  4. Make Success Inevitable: Put things in place for success. Some ideas are to having an accountability partner or coach, keeping only healthy foods in your house, and meeting a running group each week. Design your life so that success will come easily.

Looking forward to seeing your reach your goal in 2018!
