Did you know that muscle power (the ability to generate force quickly) declines earlier and at a steeper rate than muscle strength as we age? But don’t throw in the towel just yet. Performing a loaded movement quickly counts as power training, and if you are new to it you can start very conservatively. If you have good overall strength & fitness and are not incorporating power training, maybe it’s time to give it a whirl! Benefits include stronger connective tissue, improved bone mineral density, elevated muscle growth hormones, improved physical function, increased energy expenditure and increased muscle growth.
