Martin Luther King Jr. Day Donation Matching Fundraiser

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we’re matching up to $1,000 in total donations to the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Equity Fund which provides grants for projects and organizations supporting social justice and equity (Read below for examples of grants from the fund).

Racial Equity Commission
Investing in community leaders who are developing the Racial Equity Commission – planned as a quasi-governmental entity that will work to foster systemic change and lead to a more equitable and just community.

Whatcom Human Rights Task Force
Mapping systemic racism in Whatcom County through an interactive program looking at a number of local sites of historic racism, defining and providing contemporary examples of systemic racism, facilitating group discussion, and providing resources for further education and action.

Whiteswan Environmental
Next Generation of Language Healers. Helping to revive local Indigenous languages threatened by extinction.

Lummi Stepping Stones
Support for and development of Eagle Haven tiny home project.

Lhaq’temish Foundation
Salish Sea Youth Summit a gathering of Indigenous youth leaders.

Whatcom Reads
Expanding local racial justice conversations. Inviting more people to conversations regarding Esi Edugyan’s award-winning novel, Washington Black, as a powerful catalyst for discussions regarding systemic racism and social justice issues in our community. Creating opportunities for personal reflection and enduring connections that lead to meaningful community progress.
